General info
Missile characteristics | |
---|---|
Mass | 19 kg |
Guidance | Semi-automatic (SACLOS) |
Maximum speed | 296 m/s |
Missile guidance time | 25 secs |
Firing range | 3.75 km |
Explosive mass | 2.72 kg TNTeq |
Armour penetration | 630 mm |
Effective damage
The HEAT warhead does its signature straight line of damage upon penetration, with slight and unreliable spalling damage from the 6 pounds of TNT equivalent against armour. Lightly-armoured vehicles such as the BMPs will be annihilated by the overpressure damage.
Comparison with analogues
Give a comparative description of missiles that have firepower equal to this weapon.
Usage in battles
Helicopters can readily use this missile against tanks with excellent results and nearly guaranteed penetration of ground targets.
Ground vehicles such as the M901 are limited more by the design of the vehicle than the round it fires unless in a perfect hull down position.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Long range and nimble missile for tanks
- Excellent penetration even at odd angles (315 mm at 60 degrees)
- Decent post-penetration effects for a HEAT warhead
- Excellent tracking for manoeuvring ground targets
- Ground vehicles can readily shoot down hovering helicopters
Cons:
- For helicopters, the nose must be continuously facing the target
- Negligible usage against air targets in helicopters
- Will be within SPAA range before it gets in range, use the terrain to stay under the radar
History
Examine the history of the creation and combat usage of the weapon in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the weapon and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Weapon-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
.
