The warhead has 7.62 kg of TNT equivalent, doing short work and destroying the targets most of the time in one hit
Comparison with analogues
The AIM-9D sidewinder is a missile extremely similar to Shafrir 2, but the Shafrir 2 having an uncaged seeker and being possible to lead the missile and proportionally having a higher tracking rate, but at the part of burning time, range, acceleration and G tolerance being practically identical to each other
Usage in battles
As the Shafrir 2 has a a considerable high burning time and range, firing on enemies at 2.5km or even 4 with a considerable speed difference is quite usual to do with a proper leading, and having a pretty decent G overload of 18G making already very difficult to dodge and destroying enemies with the guard down or distracted in surprisingly large distances
But the main problem of Shafrir 2, and especially if it´s used in high tier battles is not having a good flare resistance and much worse than its contemporaries, and almost impossible to use in short ranges and maneuvering targets at the same time
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Good range and high burning time, being almost identical to AIM-9D
- But unlikely to a AIM-9D, it has an uncaged seeker comparable to the AIM-9G and capable of leading in a much more comfortable and better way
- Pretty good G overload of 18G, being extremely difficult to dodge against enemies without flares, mainly against supersonic aircrafts or with a considerable weight or size
- As being a fairly standardized missile at the IAF for a lot of planes, the learning curve keeps the same, and even some the planes with a lower BRs such as A-4N (Israel), Sa'ar and mainly the Mirage IIICJ makes one of the most important factors and strongness of it
Cons:
- But above 11.0 matches, the Shafrir 2 is a very bad missile for high tier jet battles or even toptier, being extremely limited and primitive compared to others like the R-60M and AIM-9L in every aspect, mainly not being a all-aspect missile
- Terrible performance in short ranges and minimal flare resistance, being easily distracted by flares even against afterburning or hot targets
History
Examine the history of the creation and combat usage of the weapon in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the weapon and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Weapon-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
.
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
