F-8 (Family)

Description

The Vought F-8 Crusader is a 1950s US Navy fighter aircraft designed by Vought, the designers of the renowned F4U Corsair. In War Thunder, several aircraft of this family are currently implemented:

• F8U-2, an early variant of the F-8 Crusader, designated F-8C under the Post-1962 Tri-Service USN/USAF Designation system
• F-8E, a later variant of the F-8 Crusader with strengthened wing spars and an uprated engine
• F-8E(FN) (France), an export variant of the F-8 tailored for French Navy service, incorporating French missiles such as the Matra R.530E and the Matra R.550 Magic.

This aircraft was later developed into the A-7 Corsair II, a US Navy replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk.
