Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.
Modifications and economy
Armaments
Offensive armament
The BV 155 B-1 is armed with:
- 1 x 30 mm MK 108 cannon, nose-mounted (75 rpg)
- 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons, wing-mounted (200 rpg = 400 total)
Usage in battles
Realistic Battles:
The BV 155 has has some similarity on play style of the ho 229 V3 and you may get familiar to it, you need to keep in mind that BV 155 needs energy to keep its good performance, but at the same time trying to maintain IAS low due its constant compression at high speeds, it means you have to maintain the altitude and energy all the time to avoid a enemy props getting the uperhand on you, which means you will have a hard time escaping from him (even bombers such as SB2C may catch you easily), as long as you bleed considerably in long dogfights and have below average diving speed bad straight line acceleration and top speed at most common engagement altitude (3km and 5km). But this plane can be very efficient when you get used to its BnZ and turnrate or bomber hunter capabilities (due its very reliable weaponry) while you don't let anyway dive on you and getting more energy.
Enemy worth mentioning:
Ki-43-III Otsu:Ki-43-III Otsu may outclimb BV 155 in match beginning and MUST be avoided if at higher altitude. This plane can rope-a-dope and outturn you, so proceed with caution.
Spitfire: Some spitfires may not seem a threat as they have a very lower performance at high altitude if compare to yours, but as it can make you bleed your energy and after that accelerates to catch your tail, spitfires need to have treated properly as one of most dangerous enemy to your energy. BnZ is recomended and dogfights need to be avoided

Pros and cons
Pros:
- Extremely impressive performance at any altitude if it has energy (can even outturn some turnfighters depending on the circumstance)
- Has combat flaps to even faster turns
- Very powerful cannons with effective belts against air targets that can rip apart large bombers
- Decent climb rate that comes along with airspawn in RB
Cons:
- Large wingspan makes you an easy target
- Lacking of armour makes bomber hunting slightly harder
- The engine tends to overheat too often if radiator is damaged
- 2 out of 3 cannons are mounted in wings
- Compresses past 700 km/h and doesn't have airbrakes
- Below average energy retention, diving speed and roll rate at altitude below 4.5km (which becomes more problematic if you don't have energy), making harder to escape from a enemy with the uperhand or with more energy
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
