Offensive armament

The FFA P-16 is armed with:

  • 2 x 30 mm Hispano HS 825 cannons, nose-mounted (120 rpg = 240 total)

Suspended armament

Describe the aircraft's suspended armament: additional cannons under the wings, bombs, rockets and torpedoes. This section is especially important for bombers and attackers. If there is no suspended weaponry remove this subsection.

Default weapon presets
  • Without load
  • 2 x Flz Lwf 63 missiles
  • 8 x 200 kg Sprengbombe bombs (1,600 kg total)
  • 4 x 200 kg Sprengbombe bombs (800 kg total)
  • 4 x 400 kg Sprengbombe bombs (1,600 kg total)
  • 2 x 2,000 lb AN-M66A2 bombs (4,000 lb total)
  • 4 x FeBb Napalmbombe incendiary bombs
  • 48 x Type R80 SURA T-80-P 3 rockets
  • 48 x Type R80 SURA T-80-US 3 rockets
  • 44 x SNEB type 23 rockets

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Has a good roll rate
  • 2 x 30 mm cannons, with a rate of 1,000 shots per minute each and full tracer ammunition with a projectile speed of 1050 m/s, form an efficient armament for aerial combat
  • Decent CAS options

Cons:

  • Subsonic
  • None of the armament have CCIP
  • The main guns do not have ammunition suitable for CAS
  • No countermeasures of any kind
  • No RWR or radar

History

The FFA P-16 was a prototype plane designed as an air superiority fighter and built in Switzerland by FFA Altenrhein near lake Constance. The plan was to build more than 100 jets, but two of the five prototypes crashed in lake Constance during test flights. No one was harmed, but the Swiss government decided to shut down the project. One remaining plane stands in the Flieger Flab Museum in Zurich, the other two have been scrapped. The tail number is the same as one of the prototypes had, XHB-VAD, the X standing for experimental prototype.

The plane feature Krueger Flaps wich is uncommon for fighter aircrafts
