Description
The ▄Hurricane Mk I Late is a rank II Swedish fighter with a battle rating of 2.7 (AB), 2.3 (RB), and 2.0 (SB). It was introduced in Update "Fire and Ice".
It is an imported version of the British Hurricane Mk I/L flown by the Finnish Air Force.
Whilst not quite as manoeuvrable or as fast as its Spitfire brethren, the Hurricane Mk I/L is still very agile for its rank and can hold its own very effectively in dogfights. One of the Hurricane's true strengths is in its durability and sheer robust nature which makes it a favourite among the virtual pilots of War Thunder as it was during the Battle of Britain over 80 years ago. You will find your Hurricane able to withstand a very high amount of damage before it will give in as it is a largely fabric-covered aircraft.
It is also a very stable gun platform which makes aiming and shooting a very easy task to do. In general the Hurricane is a joy to fly in all modes. A great and forgiving fighter aircraft for beginners to fly!
This version was purchased by the Finns in 1940, but only saw limited use in the Continuation War due to lack of spares.

Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.
Modifications and economy
Armaments
Offensive armament
The Hurricane Mk I/L (Sweden) is armed with:
- 8 x 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, wing-mounted (350 rpg = 2,800 total)
Usage in battles
Due to your mediocre armament and poor flight characteristics, the Hurricane Mk I/L can be utilized as a support fighter. Due to the aircraft's decent speed at it's battle rating, you may use boom and zoom tactics or simple rate fights to gain an upper hand against your enemy. Do not engage in prolonged dog fights as you will quickly bleed your energy and your lack of aileron input is unable to keep up in a fight.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- 8 x 7.7mm MG are quite beginner-friendly to practice aim
- Excels at low-speed dogfighting, can effectively engage agile planes like Ki-43
- Also capable of Boom & Zoom tactics against energy fighters like Bf 109E
- Tracer belts are mostly made up of incendiary ammunition, which easily sets enemy planes on fire
- Great for simulator: clear view over the nose and is stable in a turn
Cons:
- Rifle-calibre machine gun has low damage against robust targets like F4U, Ju-88
- Only has 2,800 bullets, so careful shot placement is crucial in realistic and simulator battles
- Combat flaps will rip at relatively low speeds (>270 km/h)
- Slow level flight speed compared to other aircraft like Bf 109 F, Ki-61
- Extremely poor roll rate
- Rather irresponsive rudder input
- Aircraft instruments use the imperial system, rendering them useless to non-Americans if the game hud disappears
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
