The Bf 109 G-6, was the most mass-produced version of the Messerschmitt aircraft. The main difference between this version and previous ones was the replacement of the 7.92 mm machine guns with 13 mm MG 131s. Production of the G-6 lasted from February 1943 to summer 1944, during which time over 12,000 aircraft were produced. This significant production run is primarily due to the fighter's versatility. Later production series of the Bf 109 were equipped with new three-piece Erla Haube glazing, developed by Erla, which provided better visibility.
In early 1943, Finland signed an agreement with Germany to supply Bf 109 G fighters. A total of 162 aircraft in three configurations were delivered to Finland: 48 Bf 109 G-2s, 109 Bf 109 G-6s, and two Bf 109 G-8s. The Finnish army actively used them until the end of the war.
The Finnish Bf 109 G-6 Erla was introduced in Update 2.21 "Fire and Ice" to the Swedish aviation research tree. It offers good maneuverability and controllability at medium and high altitudes, as well as excellent speed and powerful armament. However, the engine often overheats, requiring to keep an eye on the temperature.
