Description
The Su-25 is a rank VI Soviet strike aircraft with a battle rating of 10.7 (AB/SB) and 10.3 (RB). It was introduced in Update "Drone Age".
General info
Flight performance
Describe how the aircraft behaves in the air. Speed, manoeuvrability, acceleration and allowable loads - these are the most important characteristics of the vehicle.

Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.

Offensive armament
The Su-25 is armed with:
- A choice between two presets:
- 1 x 30 mm GSh-30-2 cannon, chin-mounted (250 rpg)
- 1 x 30 mm GSh-30-2 cannon + 256 x countermeasures
Suspended armament
The Su-25 can be outfitted with the following ordnance:
- Without load
- 2 x R-60 air-to-air missles
- 2 x R-60M air-to-air missles
- 8 x 500 kg FAB-500M-62 bombs (4000 kg in total)
- 8 x 250 kg OFAB-250 bombs (2000 kg in total)
- 32 x 100 kg OFAB-100 bombs (3200 kg in total)
- 160 x S-8KO rockets
- 256 x S-5K rockets
- 8 x ZB-500 incendiary bombs
- 8 x S-250 rockets
- 8 x S-24 rockets
- 2 x Kh-28L air-to-ground missles
- 4 x Kh-25ML air-to-ground missles
- 40 x S-13OF rockets
- 4 x 23 mm Gsh-23L cannons
The aircraft can also utilize custom loadout options.
Usage in battles
The Su-25 is best suited for low altitude attack runs on enemy ground units. Its multitude of air-to-ground weapons as well as its good survivability allow it to perform CAS role in Ground Realistic Battles very well. In Air Realistic Battles, it still is a force to be reckoned with in terms of ground attack, being able to erase a huge chunk of enemy points if left alone. The large quantity of unguided rockets allows for mass destruction of most ground targets. Additionally, the GSh-30-2 canon will easily rip through light, medium and heavy tanks from the sides or the rear, the same applies to light pillboxes if aimed at the top. The aircraft can also use its bombs for striking strategic bombing points. In terms of air-to-air combat, the Su-25 can utilize its excellent R-60M missiles for self-defence, being able to lock onto incoming enemy planes from any direction. Keep in mind that as long as you maintain your speed, you might keep up in a dogfight with an opponent but after a few turns the aircraft will bleed a lot of speed and become very sluggish.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Effective offensive armament, GSh-30-2 has very high shell velocity and good hitting power
- Well armoured airframe, can survive a lot of damage
- Decent acceleration
- Access to all-aspect R-60M missles with great tracking
- Generous amount of countermeasures
- Wide array of suspended armament and posibility to create custom loadouts
Cons:
- Low max speed
- Big aircraft, easy to hit
- Large turn radius
- Compression at higher speeds
- Can rip its wings in level flight if not careful
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
