Usage in battles

This plane is rather fast, has an immense acceleration, but turns also very poorly. This feature however gives it a good energy retention that allows it to juggle enemies if they get behind. The Yak-28B is also infamous for its very inaccurate bombsight in level flight, so to counter this con, you should consider diving at -20° or lower as it makes your bombs more likely to hit their target.

Once your bombs are dropped, you can either bait enemies (if you have countermeasures) or quickly return to the airfield to get ready for another bomb run.

This plane is so fast that it can, in certain circumstances, hold itself on it's own

Enemies that are worth your attention:

The Harrier family: Harriers are very common and can pose you a significant threat. Especially the ones that are loaded with the AIM-9G (AV-8A, AV-8C, Harrier GR.3) that has a very long range and a good 18 g overload. Harriers can also very commonly be seen flying very high, so they're very likely to spot you and dive on you. But you have a higher speed and a slightly better climb rate, so when you see a Harrier, make sure you're the farthest away from him and try to keep that distance. But if it fires a missile less than 3 kms away from you and you don't happen to have countermeasures, you're very likely to die

Lightning F.6: Another common enemy packed with some dangerous armement (Red Top missiles) and high performance that can easily sneak behind you. But you have an ace up your sleeve: Vertical manoeuvers. Since the Lightning has a high AoA, it'll bleed a lot of speed when turning, and even more when manoeuvering vertically, So to avoid it, start a vertical manoeuver and once the Lightning bled enough speed, dive back, and you'll easily leave him behind. Do remember however that having flares is very recommanded when attempting this kind of manoeuver

F8U-2: Same as the Lightning

T-2: Basically the same as the Lightning except it has less dangerous missiles and slightly more speed.

F-4C: Possibly your worst enemy. Although quite rare, this plane has access to the AIM-7D Sparrow. Well, yes, you can fool these with Chaff, but you don't have RWR so you can't know when the F-4C has you locked and when the Sparrow is coming. This plane also can out perform you in every possible way so if a F-4C is eager to chase you, get rid of it as fast as possible by asking one of your allies to damage it or kill it

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Immense acceleration
  • High top speed
  • Very good climb rate
  • Has access to flares and chaff for self defense against missiles (64 units in total)
  • High energy retention
  • Above 1000 kph, your plane compresses very slightly. this allows you to pull hard in a turn without any significant overload high enough break your wings or knock you out
  • Very resistant flaps and gear that acts like a pseudo-airbrake
  • Able to bomb at least 2 times until your team either wins or collapses
  • Very easy stock grind (if you do not count the amount of RP needed)
  • Can easily hold itself on it's own at the end of the match (if the enemy team isn't outnumbering you by a big margin)
  • Cheap to repair
  • The 3000 kg bomb is very useful for bombing runs in ground RB (in air RB too, as it can destroy every kind of bases and land targets)
  • Has a primary weapon that can help you destroy some light ground targets at the end of the match

Cons:

  • At the deck, this plane can redline and snap its wings even with no WEP (70% thrust allows you to stay outside the redline speed)
  • No airbrakes
  • Below 1000 km/h, your plane will start to experience extreme overloads that can easily snap your wings within 4 seconds if you pull too hard
  • Fuel starvation issues with negative Gs
  • Horrible turn rate...
  • ... That makes you vulnerable to even AIM-9Bs if you do not have countermeasures
  • Low roll rate
  • Extremely innacurate bomb sight
  • The drogue chute is pretty useless, as it opens at 280 kph and drops at 200 kph

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
