Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

Pros:

  • Unique Fakour-90 FOX-3 missile is extremely fast; accelerates much faster than the AIM-54 off the rail thanks to an absurdly powerful launch motor
  • R-27R1 is a strong sidegrade to the AIM-7F, trading range for superior maneuverability.
  • AN/AWG-9 radar remains very strong for BVR engagements across extreme distances, complimenting the new missiles this plane can carry
  • Identical to F-14A (early) in airframe and avionics performance; minimal adjustment period needed for those already familiar with the Tomcat, and is still a competitive two-circle fighter
  • Yasser rockets have the largest warhead of any rocket in game due to literally being a 750lb bomb strapped to a MIM-23 motor

Cons:

  • Can only carry 2 Yasser rockets, 2 R-27R1s or 2 Sedjil missiles max on the outer pylons
  • No access to AIM-7F, only the less capable E-2
  • Sedjil missile has far worse G limit than either the AIM-7E-2 or R27R1 (15G), making it less effective at closer distances
  • AIM-9P is a downgrade from the 9H in terms of range for only marginal gains in maneuverability
  • Fakour-90 is even heavier than the AIM-54, resuting in a very noticable decrease in aircraft acceleration and climb rate
  • Shares the regular F-14A's issues of less than desired thrust output and unparalleled exhaust heat due to using the TF30 engine
  • Large airframe makes for an easier to hit target in dogfights
  • Yasser rockets currently cause themselves to explode if launched in series due to hypersensitive proxy fuse, guaranteeing to blow yourself up in the process

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
