General info
The 14.5 mm KPVT is one of the heaviest pintle-mounted machine guns in the game. This heavy machine gun with its large calibre and decent rate of fire is close to an autocannon. It has enough damage to fight both heavily armoured aircraft, as well as light cold war tanks.
Available ammunition
There is a default universal belt in usage up until unlocking the API-T belt. With a whopping 31mm of penetration at 10m It can’t effectively engage tanks. But it does work against planes but is not as good against tanks as the AP belt.
Once the API-T is unlocked , this is the best belt for dealing with both ground and air targets with 45mm of penetration closer to being on par with the 20mm machine guns. 1/4 of its bullets can rip through some side armor at closer ranges, at this BR. Another 1/4 of this belt is specifically purposed against planes. The last 1/2 is general-purpose API-T, okay but not good against either tanks and planes.
Comparison with analogues
The KPVT 14mm is Comparable to the 15mm MG 151 and the modified aircraft variant it has anywhere between 37 and 50mm of penetration depending on the belts and is found on the Sd.Kfz.251/21 and the AMX.50 Foch.
they are also found on the b109 f2 and 4 and the do335’s.
Usage in battles
Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against notable opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Decent rate of fire for its calibre
- High muzzle velocity (1,000 m/s)
- Unlockable API-T belt has 45 mm of penetration at close range, can take on lightly armoured vehicles and even some tanks from the side or rear
Cons:
- Best belt are tracer rounds, will give your location away
- Penetration drastically drops after 100 m
History
Examine the history of the creation and combat usage of the weapon in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the weapon and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Weapon-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
