Description
The Yak-28B is a rank VI Soviet jet bomber with a battle rating of 10.7 (AB) and 9.3 (RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "Red Skies".
General info
Flight performance
Describe how the aircraft behaves in the air. Speed, manoeuvrability, acceleration and allowable loads - these are the most important characteristics of the vehicle.

Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.
Modifications and economy
Armaments
Offensive armament
The Yak-28B is armed with:
- 1 x 23 mm NR-23 cannon, nose-mounted (50 rpg)
Suspended armament
The Yak-28B can be outfitted with the following ordnance:
- 8 x 100 kg OFAB-100 bombs (800 kg total)
- 6 x 250 kg FAB-250M-46 bombs (1,500 kg total)
- 2 x 500 kg FAB-500M-46 bombs (1,000 kg total)
- 1 x 1,500 kg FAB-1500M-46 bomb (1,500 kg total)
- 1 x 3,000 kg FAB-3000M-46 bomb (3,000 kg total)
Usage in battles
Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).
This plane is rather fast, has an immense acceleration, but also a litteral flying building as it turns very poorly. This feature however gives it a good MER that allows it to juggle enemies if they get behind you. the Yak-28B is also infamous for it's very innacurate bombsight in a 0° climb degree, so to counter this con, you shoould consider diving at -20° or lower as it makes your bombs more likely to hit their target.
Once your bombs are dropped, you can either bait enemies (if you have countermeasures) or quickly return to the airfield to get ready for another bomb run
Pros and cons
Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".
Pros:
- Immense acceleration
- High top speed
- Very good climb rate
- Has access to flares and chaff for self defense against missiles (64 units in total)
- High MER (manoeuvering energy retention)
- At high speeds, your plane compresses very slightly. this allows you to pull hard in a turn without any significant overload that might break your wings
- Very resistent flaps and gear that acts like a pseudo-airbrake
Cons:
- At the deck, this plane can redline and snap it's wings even with no WEP (70% thrust allows you to stay outside the redline speed)
- No airbrakes
- Bellow 900 kph, your plane will start to experience extreme overloads that can easily snap your wings within 4 seconds if you pull too hard
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
