Description
The AMX-50 is a series of French tanks developed in the 1940s and 50s, none of which entered production. The early prototypes were designed as medium tanks and the later ones as heavy tanks with 120 mm guns. The notable feature of the tanks was the use of an oscillating turret with an autoloader. Additionally, the SOMUA company developed a heavy tank to the same specifications as the AMX-50, called the Somua SM. A tank destroyer based on the medium tank hull was also developed, named after the WW1 Marshal Foch.
