General info
Survivability and armour
The armour layout on the Leopard 2A7 for the Italian tech tree is the exact same as the one found in the German tech tree. While on the tank's stat card, the hull armour is simply 80; underneath the hull, you'll find multiple composite armour areas, which can vary from 280 mm of armour to 520 mm of armour, being the second most armored tank of 12.0. You'll also find spall liners at the front sides and roof of the 2A7, reducing the amount of incoming damage to these areas tremendously. The one downside to the Leopard 2A7 is the crew is lined up perfectly on the right (left side if your facing towards it) to be killed in one shot. This, combined with this area being one of the weaker areas of armour, will make it one of the only frontal weak spots. The same effect can be achieved by shooting the lower front plate; however, it will not always occur due to spall spread. In the event full ammo is brought, shooting the right side of the lower front plate will ammo rack it easily. Besides the breach area, these are the only frontal weak spots. As for the breach, only dart rounds are capable of penning it due to the composite with NERA components making heat rounds ineffective unless the bottom of the breach is shot. As for modules, due to their locations, they will rarely stop rounds from doing less damage as they are small, and in areas where if they were to be shot, it wouldn't do much damage to the tank anyway.

Armaments
Main armament
Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibility of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: {{main|Name of the weapon}}
. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.

Machine guns
Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.

Usage in battles
Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Marvelous penetration with the DM53 round
- Upgraded armour making the tank hard to kill from the front
- Excellent reverse and forward speed
- Has access to Gen 3 thermals for the commander and gunner unlike previous Leopards
- Perfect gun handling for an MBT: 40°/s for both turret rotation and gun elevation speed (with ace crew) and -9°/+20° maximum vertical guidance
- Access to a top mounted .50 cal machine gun
- Access to HE-TF round that can deal with lightly armoured targets
- Access to spall liners that increase survivability
- Quite survivable tank with a lot of space between each modules and crew members
Cons:
- The turret armour can be shot off making the tank more vulnerable
- Turret ring and mantlet are still a huge weak spot, despite the added armour
- 12.7 turret is quite large. Makes the tank easier to spot and kill with large caliber HE
- Engine deck prevents from lowering the gun enough towards the back
- Mine protection adds a lot of weight and decrease the mobility compared to a standard Leopard 2A7V
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
