The Vautour II N is an interceptor, and for the most part, can only be played as such. Due to its very poor manoeuvrability, attempting to turn fight is akin to suicide. The Vautour is best at keeping its top speed, and using tried and true boom and zoom tactics. There are too few bombers at the Vautour's BR, thus its best opportunity is head-on engagements; Both of the Vautour's loadouts are worthwhile in that role, the 4 AA-20 Nord missiles may be manual guidance missiles, but they do not require mastery of manual guidance or even the usage of it to be worthwhile, they are proximity-fuze and are a perfect surprise head-on weapon. Launching 2 of them at the 2km threshold can be particularly effective.

There are several big threats to the Vautour, most notably, avoid at all costs engaging the [[Su-25]] and [[A-10A]], which possess all-aspect missiles as well that the Vautour has very few chances to dodge. Also take care around the [[Sea Vixen F.A.W. Usage in battles

Meanwhile, the 4 Matra R511 missiles are radar-guided missiles, the earliest ones in the game, they are not particularly reliable but can be launched as soon as passing the 8km threshold, and can be quite effective against the occasional bomber.

There are several big threats to the Vautour, most notably, avoid at all costs engaging the Su-25 and A-10A, which possess all-aspect missiles as well that the Vautour has very few chances to dodge. Also take care around the Sea Vixen F.A.W. Mk.2, while the Vautour cannot really dodge missiles, it can often outrun them, but this does not apply to the Sea Vixen as it is faster than the Vautour and will catch up eventually.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Among the fastest in a downtier
  • 4 missiles loadouts on top of sufficient cannon ammo

Cons:

  • An interceptor with nothing to intercept in uptiers
  • Incredibly poor manoeuvrability

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
