Description
The HuoPao TuJi LunShi 02 is a rank VI Chinese light tank with a battle rating of 8.7 (AB) and 9.0 (RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "Ixwa Strike".
General info
Survivability and armour
Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.

Main armament
The PTP-86 100mm smoothbore gun found on this vehicle was a improvement on the earlier Soviet based PTP-73(Type 73) AT gun with the same caliber. The former became the weapon of choice of PTL-02, with a 1505m/s velocity (Note:1610m/s with later Type 86 APFSDS; the ammo on this gun may subject to change in future patches) which could pack some punch to vehicles at its tier; But as of the current version of the game, only the infamous 1-72-85 APDS-FS with only 220mm RHA penetration at point-blank range was available as its APFSDS, for players who are familiar with the Type 69, this gun is "pretty much" the wheeled version of it, so players can get used to the ballistics and the characteristics of it fairly quickly.
(Editor's note: After PLAGF introduced 100mm barrel launched system from BMP-3, this vehicle came with a domestic version of its 100mm ATGM; as well as 1-72-85 APDS-FS WAS NOT INTENTED for the usage of Type 86 AT gun)

Machine guns
The QJC88A 12.7x108mm turret-mounted HMG, after the 1990s, has already become the standardized HMG for most PLAGF's vehicles; the main usage of this HMG is to mow down some lightly-protected vehicles and aircrafts including helicopters. However, due to the negligible protection of this vehicle, players might found this HMG as the very last-ditch weapon of choice if any air targets come into range.

Usage in battles
Being a wheeled vehicle and the very first wheeled assault gun of the Chinese tech tree, mobility and its gun sight is where it "shines".
Currently topped as the fastest vehicle offered in this tech tree as of Update "Ixwa Strike", with its 85km/h speed, flanking the key to avoid any direct fire from pretty much any vehicles with 12.7x99mm as its weapon and above, because of the negligible protection found on this vehicle, take all precautions and avoid rushing into direct fire at all cost. And it's speed is also one of the culprit, being currently the SLOWEST wheeled assault gun in the game, taking advantage points might not be the case with the inferior top speed and only getting worse in off-road situations, complicated terrains are never friends of this vehicle so it will excels better in urban combats (as intended by PLAGF); ANYTHING that flies is also your nemesis, with either guns or rockets, they will sign your death warrant, so keep away from their sight.
The gun found on this vehicle also doesn't shine that much, currently having the inferior 1-73-85 APDS-FS as its stock ammunition, although it does sufficient damage to vehicles at lower tier or lightly protected tanks, it will trouble by cold-war heavy tanks such as M103 or tanks with rounded hull such as M48 Patton; so bringing some HEATFS can do you some good on handling such vehicles; while the gun sight is a whole different story, due to the late introduction of this vehicle in-game wise (2002), it has thermal sights, with sufficient definition (8.0-wise) to help players to find targets; utilize your subpar yet still sufficient mobility and the high velocity 100mm smoothbore gun to clean up any potential flankers.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- High speed and agility on hard surface
- Hard-hitting 100 mm cannon firing powerful HEAT and APFSDS shells
- Gunner thermal optics significantly boost its fighting capacity, especially at night
- Thin armour may cause over-penetrations, leading to minimal shrapnel damage
- Fast turret traverse
- Two-plane stabiliser allows better targeting
- Roof-mounted 12.7 mm HMG is lethal against helicopters and wheeled counterparts
- Has a range of aesthetic camouflage for diverse environments
Cons:
- Extremely slow reverse speed for a wheeled vehicle (only -7.5 km/h)
- Poor gun depression (-4 degrees) renders it useless in hilly battlefields
- Very thin armour, can be mowed down by common .50 cals frontally as well as hull-broken by HEAT
- Tall profile
- Huge recoil, firing to the sides or on a slope will cause severe hull wobbling
- As with other wheeled vehicles, poor mobility on soft surface
- No thermal for commander
- Reloads quite slowly at ~10 seconds
History
Devblog
In the late 1980’s, the NORINCO corporation successfully tested the Type 87 armored vehicle. The prototype featured a 6x6 chassis of a prospective Type 90 armored personnel carrier with a 100mm anti-tank gun. The prototype vehicle successfully passed the tests, but was not put into service.
The army authorities returned to the project in the early 90’s, when, in the course of modernization, the PLA began to form mobile motorized infantry formations. This was where the Type 87 researches came in handy: by 2003, on the same 6x6 chassis of the new Chinese armored vehicles ZSL92 and ZSL92A, a PTL02 infantry support vehicle appeared with a 100mm smooth-bore cannon in the turret. The 19-ton infantry fire support vehicle possessed significant mobility and a weapon capable of effectively destroying fortifications and armored vehicles, except for modern MBTs.
Mass production of the PTL02 has been going on since 2004, the SPG is widely used by the Chinese army and is produced for export in a version with a 105mm gun, unified for the use of Western-style ammunition.
