Description
The T-28 (1938) is a rank I Soviet medium tank with a battle rating of 1.7 (AB) and 1.3 (RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "Ixwa Strike".
General info
Survivability and armour
Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.
Armour type:
Armour | Front (Slope angle) | Sides | Rear | Roof |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hull | 30mm | 20mm Top 20+10mm Bottom |
20 mm | 10-15 mm |
Turret | 20mm Turret front 20mm Gun mantlet |
20mm | 20mm | 10 - 15 mm |
Cupola | 10 mm | 10mm | 10mm | 10mm |
Notes:
The suspensions are protected by a 10mm thin skirt.
Mobility
Like all the others T-28, the T-28 (1936) has an quite good mobility, with good acceleration and a top speed of 40KM/H (44 in arcade). Its 442 horsepower engine (775 in arcade) will allow it to exploit holes on the enemy lines, and others tactics opportunities.
Modifications and economy
Armaments
Main armament
The T-28 (1936) is armed with a KT-28, the same gun as the T-35 and the T-26-4. As a 76,2mm howitzer, the trajectory of the shell will compel you to get closer if you want to hit.
In the same time, the APHEBC shell has poor penetration, wich is not a big problem in 1.3, as almost all the vehicles you'll face won't have enough armour.
Filled with 155 grams of TNT, all penetrations will end in a oneshot.

Machine guns
Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.

Usage in battles
With its great mobility and its powerful gun, the T-28 (1936) is a great brawler. Unlike the further versions, you can't shoot enemy tanks on medium/long range, so avoid sniping and try to get the closer possible.
Don't stand discovered, your armour won't let you live long.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- good mobility
- good armament :
- powerful shells filled with a lot of TNT will allow you to oneshot every tank you'll face
- shrapnels shells avaiable, usefull to destroy trucks and armored cars
- crew on the mg turret will grant you additional crew members to replace the unconscious ones
- somehow good frontal armour, but don't stand on it.
Cons:
- gun keeps some disadvantages:
- the low velocity of shells make you raise your gun to compensate the distance.
- A big tank for its br, you remain a big, poorly armoured target.
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
