Description
The Stridsfordon 9040B is a rank VI Swedish light tank with a battle rating of 9.3 (AB) and 9.7 (RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "Ground Breaking".
It has great speed combined with a very good and underrated 40mm gun that can shred its enemies to pieces. The good manoeuvrability is great and it has a decent engine even when stock, but it gets even better when spaded. It has a great gun with good penetration values and an awesome rate of fire. It can also unlock fuse shells that let it fight aircraft as good as any anti-air and it has access to 6 smoke-shells. it has access to Generation 2 thermals which let it see targets before they see you. It also has access to a scout-drone.
General info
Survivability and armour
As it is a light tank, there is not much armour to speak of but it does do well because of the engine that is rather large and usually eats shells. The driver usually survives due to this.
The armour does get improved on the later models but should not be relied on. Use your great speed to move around and not get shot. If you will get shot, try to have your engine towards the enemy as they might shoot it and let you take them out or remove their barrels.

Usage in battles
The Strf 9040B is a deadly vehicle in the right hands, as many other vehicles, good positioning and timing is key.
Here are some things that the Strf 9040B offers:
Gun
The Gun is great, one of the best if not the best auto cannon you can have. It's used by a wide variety of Swedish vehicles and even American 40mm are usually the Swedish Bofors. There is only one fault however, the auto-loading mechanism. This does exist in real life as well, but in the game it's implemented poorly. So it's important to note the limited ammo you have of 24 shots before you run out. So it's an auto cannon with an autoloader like a tank! So shoot mainly like a tank, unless you are on a capture point in which you can almost shoot indefinitely as the quick reload of the cap and the normal reload of the autoloader makes it a beast in defence!
Speed
The speed of the Strf 9040B allows it to reach specific areas pretty quickly, but maybe not as quick as some of its peers. This allows the 9040B to use its awesome 40mm Bofors canon to its extent as its great rate of fire and penetration values (for a autocannon) can quickly liquidate any light tank, if you shoot first however.
The speed also allows it to retreat fast as its reverse speed is almost the same as the forward speed. The engine offers great torque although not as good as the 9030FIN or the 9040C. The good thing however is that this particular model has less armour and this makes it lighter.
Universality
The Strf 9040B has great universal capabilities. It has access to fuse-shells which allows it to effectively destroy low flying airplanes, and even far away helicopters. Although the normal APFSDS shell might be adequate for this as well, as the high rate of fire combined with extreme accuracy of the 40mm Bofors lets it hit most of its flying targets.
No planes or helicopters? Of course this is not an anti-air vehicle, so you will see tanks pretty often. The Strf 9040 vehicles were made by the Swedish army to work as a multi-tool vehicle, which could fight infantry, tanks and air targets as easily as any other vehicle. The APFSDS offers 143mm of penetration which lets it actually penetrate the turret of many Soviet vehicles if aimed right, the breach can be taken out and if lucky, based on what you are shooting, even some crew.
American tanks are a bit nastier to deal with. If faced frontally, just try to shoot the barrel or the turret ring if feeling lucky, otherwise go for the barrel and track, then flank it.
Almost ANY tank you face that is slightly angled at you, you can penetrate their sides and damage them heavily, if not take them out instantly.
If facing the side of any tank, shoot the driver and THEN the rest, as your fast fire rate lets you finish them. Soviet heavies have their ammo in the middle of the tank and shooting it lets you usually ammo-rack them.
Armour...?
The armour is not much, but the engine is pretty good at absorbing shots and usually many will shoot the middle, which will usually give you a fire and maybe the driver sadly gets knocked out. But the armour is decent for a light tank/IFV, but should not be relied on.
Scouting
The 9040B has access to a scouting drone which on large maps let it scout while the tank is hiding and find targets for the team and itself. Use it to see the enemies before they can see you and prepare. It also has access to Gen 2 thermals which let it effectively fight up-to date enemies as well. This should be prioritised as it is a worthwhile upgrade.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Great manoeuvrability
- Adequate rapid-fire automatic 40 mm cannon
- Low profile
- Great penetration
- Great accuracy
- Good adaptability with the ability to fight planes and tanks
- Good turret rotation
- Good acceleration
- Decent torque
Cons:
- Lacking better APFDS slpprj m/01 rounds
- Little protection
- 24-round fast-loading magazine, although it can be compensated by being in a cap
- A learning curve but not a bad one
- Sadly does not have a commanders-view like the 9030FIN
History
The Strf 9040B was an updated version of the 9040A, it was updated to meet modern standards at the time installing such things as a fully stabilized gun as well as incorporating new electronic systems. They also made the suspension better as to improve accuracy on the move as well as crew confort. The gun was also upgraded going from the Bofors automatkanon m/70Bb to the Bofors automatkanon m/70Bc that added an electronic firing pin to improve the accuracy of shots. The model was introduced October 1999 and the Swedish armed forces bought about 44 of the 9040B model.
