Usage in battles
The magach 5, similarly to previous MBTs in the tech tree, is a fairly maneuverable but its larger profile makes it easy to spot. It does well at long range shooting and the 105mm sharir canon makes its presence known, as many tanks in the same BR can be destroyed in 1 strategic hit. It fares well in an urban setting with a fairly quick turret traverse and powerful ammo, however it is not the fastest and should have team mates to cover the flanks. Rarely should the ammo capacity be met as the front ammo stowage is the biggest detriment to the tanks survival in a frontal hit. Overall this tank is just right for most environments with it being most vulnerable to comparable ammo from other western nations.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Good firepower
- Decent mobility
- Surprisingly survivable, two crew members often survive a shot
- ERA able to defeat low-end chemical shells
Cons:
- Ineffective armour in an uptier
- No stabilizer
- Ammunition explosions are common as most of the shells are in the front next to the driver
- ERA only effective against chemical shells - only provides 5 mm kinetic protection
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
