The '''Luftvärnskanonvagn (Lvkv) 9040C''' is one of the many variations of the CV90, designed mainly to combat enemy aircraft and attack helicopters. Delivered in 1997 to the army, giving them a vehicle that can keep up with other units during an advance where they can be deployed fast to provide to infantry and other combat units with cover from hostile air units. The Swedish army ordered 30 of the Lvkv 90 variant, only 3 of them were upgraded to the "Cesar" standard for international use.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} Swedish SPAA {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.97 "Viking Fury"]].
+

 +
Introduced in [[Update 1.97 "Viking Fury"]], the '''{{Specs|name}}''' has very similar performance to other Strf 90 IFVs. It's capable of engaging both air and ground targets effectively. Its 40 mm cannon has a slow rate of fire, and a small magazine with only 24 shots, so shots need to be precise in order to save ammo and guarantee a kill. If you intend to play a mostly stationary SPAA role, a good idea is to set down an ammo crate (Default binding: Alt+E), as this will decrease the reloading speed of your gun dramatically. However, it could be considered quite poor as an SPAA and a light tank, since it lacks the mobility and ATGMs found in other light tanks like the BMP-2M and Bradley IFV. And as an SPAA, it has no access to anti-air missiles, it does have access to HE-VT shells, but those are not available stock, and attacking aircraft with regular HE shells may prove challenging.

The armour of the {{PAGENAME}} is best considered to be non-existent. This turns out to work to its benefit however, as the lack of armour can often prevent the vehicle from being outright destroyed upon a first strike, leaving the player a few seconds to retaliate. The turret, hull, and front upper plate all boast a few mm of composite armour which does help against smaller caliber machine guns, however you are still very vulnerable to enemy CAS, IFVs, and MBTs.

The {{PAGENAME}} is equipped with a search radar and a tracking IRST. The search radar can switch its scope scale from 7 km to 15 km. It uses an electro-optical targeting system to help itself fight the locked hostile aircraft without triggering their LWS.

'''Lvkv 9040C''' is upgraded version of the '''Lvkv 9040''' which Sweden ordered 30 of, the first Lvkv's arrived in 1997 and would be based on the Strf9040A, 3 of these 30 Lvkv 90s that were delivered would get upgraded to the Ceasar-standard where they got designation Lvkv 9040C. These 3 '''Lvkv 9040C''''s were designed for international usage.
 +

 +
The swedish army wanted an Strf90 which could support allies against enemy air support and attack helicopters, so they wanted to convert some of the Strf9040A's into an platform for a more mobile anti-air support. Compared to the Strf 90 the Lvkv 90 have a higher elevation of the gun for better combating enemy aerial units, moving the ammunition feeding part to below the gun, giving it a higher elevation movement compared to the normal Strf 90's.

Description

The Luftvärnskanonvagn (Lvkv) 9040C is one of the many variations of the CV90, designed mainly to combat enemy aircraft and attack helicopters.

Introduced in Update 1.97 "Viking Fury", the Luftvärnskanonvagn 9040C has very similar performance to other Strf 90 IFVs.

Radar

The Lvkv 9040C is equipped with a search radar and a tracking IRST. The search radar can switch its scope scale from 7 km to 15 km. It uses an electro-optical targeting system to help itself fight the locked hostile aircraft without triggering their LWS.

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Capable at destroying jets with its fused HE and tanks with its APFSDS
  • A Stridsfordon 90C with radar and lock-on ability to engage jets and helicopters at longer distances
  • Very well protected SPAA
  • Not limited to AA role and can flank and destroy tanks easily thanks to its 40 mm APFSDS
  • Good mobility
  • Low profile unlike other SPAAs
  • Access to second generation thermals for the gunner
  • Good gun elevation, higher than the Lvrbv 701

Cons:

  • Due to its limited magazine (only 24 shells) it can not engage multiple targets without emptying the magazine
  • When the magazine is emptied, it takes time to reload - holding down the trigger is not recommended. Fire in short bursts to avoid spooking the pilot/tanker and conserve ammunition
  • While reloading the magazine it will be an easy prey for enemy air units
  • The HE-VT shell is a tier II modification
  • The stock HE shell needs a direct hit on an aerial vehicle to destroy it - smart pilots know not to fly in a straight line, making it very difficult to take them down
  • Doesn't have SAMs so can't engage helicopters at long ranges
  • An easy target for enemy helicopters with long range Vikhr and Hellfire ATGMs
  • Does not get access to the scouting abilities the Strf 9040C and Strf 9040 BILL have
  • Rather slow turret traverse
  • No CITV
  • 40 mm HE-VT is rather weak - multiple hits are required to down an enemy aircraft
  • 40 mm HE-VT needs to travel a certain distance to activate the fuse - helicopters at close range require a direct hit to take down

History

Lvkv 9040C is upgraded version of the Lvkv 9040 which Sweden ordered 30 of, the first Lvkv's arrived in 1997 and would be based on the Strf9040A, 3 of these 30 Lvkv 90s that were delivered would get upgraded to the Ceasar-standard where they got designation Lvkv 9040C. These 3 Lvkv 9040C's were designed for international usage.
