While technically a bomber and getting a bomber airspawn, it is also apt as a bomber-interceptor. Players can often find themselves able to get to enemy bombers far before friendly interceptors and air defence fighters, such as P-38s, XP-50s, P-61s, or Whirlwinds are able to get to altitude. What a player can do to dispatch of an enemy bomber is up to them; the 20 mm MG 151s can adequately dispatch of enemy bombers, but players can also use the HVARs to great effect against bombers. The velocity of the HVARs is rather low, so a player that is inexperienced might have an issue at longer ranges, getting in close raises the chances of hitting.

Once the bomber threats have been neutralized, pilots often find themselves above or at the same height as enemy fighters, but the M.B.175T is no slouch. While the positioning of the offensive 20 mm MG151s is unfortunate, the M.B.175T is blessed with a defensive 20 mm MG 151 which can be used to devastating effect. Pilots should chose to work from the top down, focusing on the fighters that are closest relative to the pilot's height. A tactic that can work is to bait them into stalling for what they might think is an easy shot, then using the M.B.175Ts deceptively good turning ability to pounce on a stalled enemy.

Description

The M.B.175T was an adaptation of the Bloch MB.170 for naval purposes. After WWII, France had to use any aircraft to its disposal to rearm their air force; thus the M.B.175T was created, the most important upgrade being the introduction of a single F5W torpedo, which, paired with the aircraft's long range, made it suitable for maritime patrol. The aircraft was retired in 1950 with the introduction of more modern fighter-bombers like the F6F.

It was introduced in Update 1.83 "Masters of the Sea". Although called a "bomber", with its hard-hitting armament of two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons, this plane can be used in a more aggressive role as an attacker, or even a bomber interceptor. The HVAR rockets and the MG 151/20s make it a perfect counter to the much-feared BV 238. Meanwhile, for naval battles, having access to an F5W torpedo gives you the chance to destroy a single ship with a good launch, however the aircraft's large size makes it easy for enemy AA to target you and shoot you down.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Has air brakes
  • Quite manoeuvrable for its size
  • 12 x HVAR rockets as basic payload
  • Armed with two powerful 20 mm MG 151 with a large ammo pool for each
  • One 20 mm MG 151/20 defensive turret to easily deal with enemies in its shooting range

Cons:

  • MG 151/20 is mounted in the wings far off the fuselage, requires adjustment of convergence for accurate hits on enemy
  • Turret is only good for enemies above the aircraft; large blindside due to plane's twin rudders
  • Flaps have a rather low speed limit before they tear off
  • Gunner is exposed
  • Does not have a ventral gunner, making it vulnerable to attacks from under
  • No bombload

History
