A Brief History of the Churchill Crocodile

In War Thunder, the Churchill Crocodile is generally considered a bit of an oddball as its signature flamethrower is useless against the vast majority of opponents it faces. However, on the battlefields of Western Europe in the 1940s, it was anything but funny for those soldiers unlucky enough to fight against a unit equipped with these armoured dragons.

Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B 'Tiger II'

The Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B, otherwise known as the Königstiger, King Tiger, and Tiger II, marks the end of Germany’s heavy tank line. Equipped with the “long eighty-eight” and exceptionally thick frontal armor, this 70-ton behemoth can make quick work of most opponents on the battlefield and, in the hands of a skilled player, can prove to be a deciding factor in any conflict.

Churchill AVRE Petard — Bomb Launching Tank

The Churchill AVRE Petard is a modified variant of the Churchill family of heavy tanks, this one featuring a 230 mm launcher for a Petard mortar. The mortar’s max range is only about 100 meters, forcing players to get right up close to enemies to guarantee a hit. Fortunately, the Churchill’s tough armor is strong enough to withstand a very large amount of punishment, and when you do get close enough to land a hit, the powerful Petard mortar easily destroys opponents with a single hit.

IS-2 (mod.1944): The Polar Bear In Berlin

The IS-2 (1944) is a Soviet heavy tank. It has adequate armour which rivals the Tiger II and a powerful cannon that overpowers the US 90mm M3. These characteristics make it a good sniper. Additionally, its great BR-471B and BR-471D rounds can cause overpressure and knock out most foes with one single shot. When correctly played with, the IS-2 (1944) will become a huge threat to your enemies. Although its 20+ sec long reload can be frustrating, it is still a tank worthy of playing.

IS-6: A Soviet Steel Titan

The IS-6, also known as Object 252, was a Soviet heavy tank developed during the final years of World War II. Designed in 1944, it was a revolutionary step in tank development, introducing advanced sloped armour that influenced the future of heavy tank design. Despite its promising features, mechanical design flaws led to the IS-4M replacing it in production. Only two prototypes of the IS-6 were ever built, both of which were scrapped at the war’s end.

KV-1 (L-11) - the Soviet fortress

The KV-1 — the Soviet’s favourite fortress. With great armour that’s able to tank hits from most foes, and a reliable cannon, when played correctly, it can decimate entire teams or just be really annoying in general. So, how is it played?

IS-3: Assault Wedge

The IS-3 is the third tank in the IS series. It retains the same 122mm cannon, gets a dome-shaped turret, and most famously - the armour has been heavily upgraded. Able to tank hits from most foes, it has gained an infamous reputation for being hard to kill. It also faces many tanks with the similar characteristic of a big gun with a slow reload. However - how do you get in those situations? And how is it played?

T26E1-1: Armored Anomaly

The T26E1-1 “Super Pershing” is a famous up-gunned variant of the more ubiquitous M26 Pershing medium tank used by the United States Army during World War II. Deployed in the final months of the war, the Super Pershing was equipped with the powerful T15E1 cannon to rival the infamous German 8.8cm KwK 43 tank gun used by the Tiger II. In addition to its deadly main gun, the single Super Pershing sent to Europe received a unique appliqué armor package by soldiers of the 3rd Armored Division.

M4A3E2 Jumbo: The Wall of Steel

The M4A3E2 Jumbo is an USA heavy/assault tank. Its amazing frontal armour provides great protection, which makes it excel at frontally attacking enemies. Additionally, its fast reloading gun makes it possible to fire more shots than its foes when fighting. A skilled Jumbo player can deal with opponents like the Tiger and the Panther with ease. Though penetrating opponents can be difficult at first, it is still a tank worthy to pick up.

T1E1(90) - A Big Gun on a Big Tank

The T1E1(90) is pretty much a normal T1E1 except with a 90 millimeter cannon strapped to it. It is armed with the aforementioned T7 90 mm cannon, along with a M3 37 mm auxiliary cannon. It is a heavy tank at Rank III and has 2 hull-mounted M2HB 12.7 mm machine guns, as well as one roof mounted one. It has extremely light armor, but decent survivability due to large spacing in the vehicle.
