G-5 class — Speed isn't everything

The G-5 class boats were the product of Soviet active coastal defense doctrine. To accomplish their mission, Soviet designers built the fastest torpedo boat of its time to attack large ships. However, this came at the expense of range and seaworthiness, negatively affecting the combat effectiveness of these vessels. In War Thunder, however, these two factors do not affect the G-5, which is a fast and maneuverable torpedo boat albeit with weak armament and low survivability.

Saab 21 — Made in Sweden

Swedish aircraft are known for their unusual designs, such as double delta, the canard configuration, and the “Flying Barrel.” The series of unique designs began with the Saab 21, a pusher propeller-engine aircraft that was later changed to a jet engine.

MiG 15 — Easy to fly, hard to shoot

The Soviet MiG-15 gained fame during the Korean War as the F-86 Sabre's most notable adversary. Its swept wing, powerful engine, and small size gave it a significant advantage over its outdated enemies and predecessors, such as the F-84 and MiG-9. Due to these characteristics, it was also used by Hungary, China, East Germany, and many other Soviet allies. In the game, the MiG-15 shines with its excellent maneuverability, energy retention, impressive climb rate, and strong airbrake—so useful when fighting Sabres. But are these characteristics offset by poor gun position, awful roll, and ineffective rudder?

[Scale models] Tamiya 1/72 F4D-1 Skyray

Modelling 1/72 planes, despite the overall smaller size of the model, is often more complex and generally different to 1/48 aircraft. A lot of the details are smaller and its harder to do the weathering to be to scale. Besides, if you have some gaps, they are more noticeable when the model is so small. But, the overall assembly generally takes much less time, so does the painting; models are cheaper and you can fit way more of the small ones on your shelf. And so, the author got his hands on the 1/72 Tamiya F4D-1 kit tooled back in 1998.

Iranian F-14 Tomcat — Guardian of the Revolution

Iran was the only buyer of Tomcats besides the US Navy, but after the Islamic Revolution it severed all ties with the West. But more interestingly, the Iranian F-14As had a more intense and dangerous career than their American counterparts: fighting against a numerically superior enemy and without proper maintenance, they continued to intimidate the enemy and inflict serious damage. After the Iran-Iraq war, the Tomcat's armament package was greatly expanded, and Iran still uses these fighters today. In the game, one of these modified aircraft is represented as the F-14A IRIAF.

Junkers Ju 86 — German bomber and airliner

The German Junkers Ju 86 bomber and airliner didn't become a particularly famous machine, but it found its niche in Germany and abroad.

Did you know? // Overwing Missiles

To increase the payload of their Lightning and Jaguar warplanes, British designers decided to mount missiles and rockets not only under, but also overwing.

The Swedish Kungstiger

The Swedish King Tiger is a unique vehicle in its history and for the Swedish tank tree. It is almost the only heavy tank in the entire tree (KV-1 being the other), and it retains all the strengths of the German tank: strong hull, powerful gun, and good maneuverability. But now its vulnerable turret ring along with overall weak turret protection can be disappointing. Read more about the Kungstiger in this article.
