Offensive armament

Main article: Type 23-3 (23 mm)

The J-10A is armed with:

  • 1 x 23 mm Type 23-3 cannon, belly-mounted (200 rpg)
  • 72 x large calibre countermeasures

Suspended armament

Describe the aircraft's suspended armament: additional cannons under the wings, bombs, rockets and torpedoes. This section is especially important for bombers and attackers. If there is no suspended weaponry remove this subsection.

Default weapon presets
  • 2 x 800 l drop tanks
  • 2 x PL-5EII missiles + 2 x PL-12 missiles
  • 6 x PL-5EII missiles
  • 6 x PL-8 missiles
  • 6 x PL-12 missiles
  • 28 x Type 90-1 rockets
  • 16 x Type 130-2 rockets
  • 11 x 250 kg 250-3 bombs (2,750 kg total)
  • 5 x 500 kg 500-3 bombs (2,500 kg total)
  • 11 x 250 kg 250-4 bombs (2,750 kg total)
  • 5 x 500 kg 500-4 bombs (2,500 kg total)
  • 2 x 260 kg GB250 bombs (520 kg total)
  • 2 x 570 kg GB500 bombs (1,140 kg total)
  • 2 x 290 kg LS-6 250 bombs (580 kg total)
  • 2 x 630 kg LS-6 500 bombs (1,260 kg total)

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

History

The J10 program began in the early 1980s under strict secrecy in order to counter new fighter aircraft from other countries with something of equal value. Originally developed purely as an interceptor, its capabilities were later extended to include air-to-ground missions. The first flight of the J-10 took place in 1996, but the program suffered a setback in 1997 due to a serious accident. As a result, the design was modified and the new prototype flew on March 23, 1998 for the first time to continue the test program. On June 28, 2002, the first pre-production model took off on its maiden flight and in 2004, the aircraft was finally put into service by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The J-10 was only offered for export to Pakistan. In april 2006, the Pakistani government announced that it would put 36 J-10s into service under the designation FC-20. On January 9, 2006, Jane's Defence Weekly reported that an advanced version of the J-10 was being planned (J-10B or Super J-10). This variant presumably took off on its maiden flight in December 2008.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
