Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

History

The Israeli Air Force entered the jet age in June 1953 when the first two Gloster T.7 Meteor planes' nicknamed "Sufa" (Storm) and "Sa'ar" (Tempest) landed in Israel. The squadron, established in Ramat David, operated three models of Meteors for training, combat and tactical photography. A fourth plane model for all-weather and night was operated by a sister squadron in Tel-Nof.

Even though the Air Force's French era was at the gate, and the Ouragan and Mystere planes replaced them as first line aircraft within two years, the British Meteors were able to take credit for a number of important activities. Among them, shooting down two Egyptian Vampires in the first jet aerial battle in the Middle East, which took place in September 1955 and shooting down the plane of the Egyptian Army's General Staff, Just before the Kadesh war.

In these twin-engine jet planes' generations of jet pilots were trained' as the Meteors served as operational training planes for combat pilots, and later on in a more advanced stage of the flight school. Meteors converted for photography, performed sorties deep in enemy territory and served as conversion planes for twin-engined fighter squadrons.

Israel was the third Middle Eastern state to get the Meteor, after Egypt and Syria. In 1956 Israel received six NF Mk.13s, three before and three after the Suez crisis. These were the last Meteors acquired from Britain. During the Suez crisis Egypt, Israel and the United Kingdom all possessed Meteors, but although all three countries used their Meteors in or around the canal zone, no clashes are recorded between Meteors. This was partly because the Israelis realised that the Meteor was outclassed by the Egyptian MiG-15s, and avoided using them as pure fighter aircraft.
