'''Pros:'''
+
* A straight improvement over the H8K2, with more speed and retractable gear
 +
* Incredible speed and climb, making it effectively untouchable if one climbs directly toward a base
 +
* Good armament spread and damage (when they hit), including limited coverage under the plane
 +
* Favourable matchmaking; always on Axis team, BR means cannot fight 4.7's
 +
* Incredible climb rate, further increased slightly over the H8K2
 +
* (RB) Long Range Bomber spawn, putting it at usually around 4,500m on spawn
 +
* Well armoured even for a non-Japanese bomber, with armoured pilot, gunners and self-sealing tanks
 +
* Incredible SL modifier of 2.4 (meaning 480% when including premium vehicle modifier, 720% with premium account), the equal highest in the game
 +
* Good RP modifier of 1.3, comparable to the BV-238 and better than the PBM-3

** Quite fast for its size and rank

** Incredible climb rate

** Decently survivable with armour and self-sealing tanks

* '''{{PAGENAME}}'''

** Improved aerodynamics due retractable landing gear

*** Faster

*** Better climb rate

'''Cons:'''
+
* Expensive at over 2,000 GE for a Tier 2 premium vehicle that is a modification of one already in the tree
 +
* Awful bomb load; 780kg TNT equivalent with largest load, with both wing bombs dropping together
 +
* Guns are unreliable; cannons are the weak 99 mod.1's, machine guns are single 7.7's, long reload on the cannons
 +
* Landing is risky due to lack of land-suitable gear; the H8K must land on its hull
 +
* Additional speed means that in dives, the H8K can rapidly approach its rip speed of ~560 km/h IAS
 +
* Retractable gear can make slowing down more difficult, especially with the landing flaps causing so much lift they can often stall you

The H8K3 was a prototype variant of the H8K2. It was modified to allow the dorsal turret and the landing floats to retract, as well as to include fowler flaps, and the blisters which housed the side guns were replaced with sliding hatches. All such changes were made in order to reduce drag and thereby increase speed (Note: None of the turret modifications are currently modeled in game). A total of only 2 were built.

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ historical reference" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/Name-vehicles/historical reference) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to include links to sources at the end of the article.

Media

An excellent addition to the article will be video guides, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
