Ships can fly! Kind of.
At the beginning of the 20th century, shipbuilders had a simple idea: if you take most of the ship out of the water, you reduce drag and increase speed significantly. The way to do this was borrowed from airplanes — just install a wing that creates a lifting force, in turn pushing the ship out of the water.
The Germans with their VS-6 were the first to use hydrofoils on a combat vehicle, but after World War II, ships alike were used all over the world! In War Thunder, every commander of a suitable vehicle can try out hydrofoils: just accelerate and fly (well, almost)!
