Description

The Regele Ferdinand-class, Letuchiy, 1945 was a Romanian Regele Ferdinand-class destroyer. She was built as the Regina Marina at Pattison Yard, Naples. She was laid down in 1927 and commissioned on 7th September 1930. As built, her main armament was made up of five Swedish-made 120 mm cannons in single mounts, with two on the bow before the bridge, a third behind the funnels, and the last two aft. Anti-air protection was provided by a single 76 mm Bofors anti-air cannon and a pair of Škoda 4 cm guns. The torpedo armament was made up of two triple 533 mm launchers amidship. On 26th June 1941, she participated in defense of the port of Constanta from Soviet attack. She allegedly damaged a Soviet destroyer leader during the battle. After that, due to the Soviet navy being superior in numbers to the German and Romanian navies in the Black Sea area, she conducted minelaying and convoy escort duties. In early 1944, she evacuated Axis troops from besieged Sevastopol. On 5th September 1944, after Romania switched sides, she was seized by the Soviets and renamed Letuchiy. She served in the Soviet navy until 1951 when she was handed back to the Romanian navy where she was renamed D22. She then continued serving until 1961 when she was sold for scrap.

The Letuchiy was introduced in Update "Apex Predators". Unlike her contemporaries, she lacks adequate anti-air protection as the pair of 4 cm guns have very limited firing arcs and low fire rate, making her extremely vulnerable from air attacks. The torpedo armament is adequate with Italian torpedoes being utilized. These trade range for speed having limited range of only 4 km without the torpedo mode installed. Magazines are located under waterline, making them protected from direct hits that would otherwise lead to fatal explosion.
