The GShG-7.62 is a gas operated self powered weapon in contrast to other rotary guns which are usually powered externally. It was developed in 1968-1970 for the Mi-24 Helicopter.

Available ammunition

The gun fires 7.62 mm rounds which are effective at taking out lightly armoured vehicles and infantry.

Comparison with analogues

The most famous rotary MG the M134 Minigun fires the same caliber rounds. They have very similar muzzle velocity and effective range. The The GShG-7.62 weighs significantly less than the M134 weighing 18.5 Kg, while the M134 weighs 39Kg.
