General info
Tell us about the tactical and technical characteristics of the cannon or machine gun.
Available shells
- FI-T
- API
Velocity of API shell is 610 m/s. It is possible to achieve penetration American MBT's roofs (Abrams, MBT-70) although this task can prove to be difficult.
The FI-T Shell is a stealth round, however, will always be matched with at least one API-Tracer shell every 4 shots. (Air Targets Belt) The velocity is 690 m/s. If a hit to the inner wing or central fuselage is scored it will act like a "mini flak shell" and can cause fuel leaks, oil leaks, engine damage, and inner wing damage.
Comparison with analogues
Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns, that have firepower equal to these type of weapons.
Usage in battles
Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against the main opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.
This weapon makes for a fairly dangerous encounter, whether for you or your enemy. The slightly above average rate of fire of 900RPM allows for long range tap firing or longish bursts. It's largest issue is that despite the large caliber, it lacks enough punch to ensure each hit will cripple the target yet it still tends to come with a sparse supply of ammunition. Trigger happy pilots, beware! Precise aim is required!
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Higher fire rate than predecessor (NS-23 found on Mig-15 standard)
- Decent damage per short burst of shells (about four or more shells, a burst of three can work about 50% of the time)
- High fire rate for gun of caliber
Cons:
- Low velocity
- One or two shell usually won't cause a critical or destroy an enemy (two may impact performance for a follow-up)
- Occasional sparks
- Generally low ammunition supply
History
Examine the history of the creation and combat usage of this weapon. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(weapon-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article.
Media
An excellent addition to the article would be a video guide, as well as screenshots from the game and photos.
