However, it will detonate on any features of the map, be that a rock, a mound of dirt, or even the ground. This, combined with its 3m trigger radius makes it not very effective to shoot down vehicles hiding just behind ridge lines or obstacles, but quite effective against planes. The proximity fuse arms past 300 m, against closer targets the fuse doesn't work and the shell will perform just like a standard HE shell, but with more explosives and a lower velocity. In these close range engagements, it might be preferable to use the HEVT shells to ensure destruction. | ||

Description
The Canon de 155 Automoteur Modèle F1 is a rank V French tank destroyer with a battle rating of 7.0 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "La Royale".
General info
Survivability and armour
The armour of the AMX-30 AuF1 is very thin and offers little protection against any kind of anti-tank weapon. It can only withstand small arms fire such as 7.62 mm machine guns and shrapnel. The armour is only 20 mm thick on the turret, which means that engaging any tank with a heavy machine gun is a dangerous enterprise, as it is extremely easy for them to kill your gunner and other crew using their machine gun. The engine in the rear of the hull can sometimes block some shots, but it is not a reliable defence.
However, due to the AuF1's weak armour, surviving solid shot shells such as AP, APCR and APDS is possible, but be careful - even if these shells don't knock out your gunner, they have a high chance of damaging the vertical aiming drive, rendering the tank unable to fire back. Therefore try not to get hit in the first place, and use the tank's excellent mobility to disengage.

Armaments
Main armament
The AMX-30 AuF1 is equipped with the 155 mm CN 155 AUF1 howitzer, a powerful gun with a high rate of fire and a long range, at the cost of options. In game, the gun can fire three types of rounds, including, including OE 155 56, a standard high explosive shell, M107 (PF), a high-explosive proxy fuse, and smoke. The gun is mounted on a fully traversable turret with an autoloader, which allows the AMX-30 AuF1 to fire 8 rounds per minute.
The performance of the howitzer is great , with the second fastest reload of a cannon of its caliber while possessing a decent muzzle velocity, faster than both the Type 75 and the 2S3M. However, the main HE shell is slower than both the G6 Rhino and Bandkanon 1C, and also contains less explosive filler. This is still enough to annihilate any lightly armoured ground vehicle with a direct hit anywhere and even the most protected vehicles can still be destroyed in one shot if aimed properly.
Additionally, the AuF1 also has the M107 (PF) shell. This is a proximity-fused high-explosive shell which detonates automatically when it gets close to a tank or plane, which allows it to explode above the roof of an enemy vehicle, destroying it in a similar fashion to a top attack missile.

Pros and cons
Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===
, also if applicable).
