Armaments

Offensive armament

Main article: M61A1 (20 mm)

The Kurnass 2000 is armed with:

  • A choice between two presets:
    • 1 x 20 mm M61A1 cannon, chin-mounted (640 rpg)
    • 1 x 20 mm M61A1 cannon + 90 x countermeasures

Suspended armament

Describe the aircraft's suspended armament: additional cannons under the wings, bombs, rockets and torpedoes. This section is especially important for bombers and attackers. If there is no suspended weaponry remove this subsection.

Usage in battles

Air RB:

In Air RB the Kurnass 2000 could be compared to the F-4EJ Kai. Both, for now, has the same ir to air missile armament and similar radar. To utilize the 8 potent missiles and one of the best radar in game would be the major task that every Kurnass 2000 pilots would have to face. Typically, enter the battle at a low altitude and shoot down everyone on your way is still a viable and effective way to fly the Kurnass 2000. Climbing could also be attempted, but given the presence of AIM-54s and 3rd generation fighter jets featuring the same avionics and significantly higher climb rate, it would be a riskier style to fly the Kurnass 2000.

A major difference between the Kurnass 2000 and the F-4EJ Kai would be the slats on the Kurnass's wing. In high speed, slats could be extended to provide more lift and limit the angle of attack of the aircraft, resulting in a significant decrease in speed loss during turnings to a level even comparable to the level of 3rd generation aircrafts like the F-16 and Mig-29. In lower speed, the slats would also increase the overall maneuverability of the aircraft, so it is adviced to extend the slats in battles, espcially when fighting in groups. Retracting slats when there is the need to gain more speed or when higher angle of attack is needed during high speed situation. Overall, the slats of the Kurnass provides pilots with the ability to alter the aerodynamic of the aircraft in combats, and provide a higher versatility and a higher overall performance compare to the F-4EJ Kai.

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

Pros:

  • One of the most effective air to air armaments in game with APG-76, AIM-7Fs and AIM-9Ls.
  • Slats for increased maneuverability and versetility
  • High level of maneuverability at high speed as with any other Phantoms
  • Guided bombs and missile with targeting pod for engaging ground targets

Cons:

  • Big and heavy aircraft
  • Thrust to weight ratio less than 3rd generation jets

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
