This aircraft is very similar to the AH-6, an upcoming vehicle to the US Helicopter tree. The MD500 tow is based on the MD500 aircraft platform, whose development started in 1960 based off a handful of undeveloped designs from the 1950's. The ingame MD500 is based off of the mid/late production MD500E's from the mid and late 80's. The Israeli MD-500 Tow is not an early production, (1970's,) MD-500E.

The MD500E has seen ample combat action, and is almost identical to some variants of the MH-6 and Ah-6.  You can actually buy one from the MDHelicopters website. The cheapest brand new one you can get one in real life from MD Helicopters is approximately 6,521,739,130 GE. (Around $3 million USD.)
