History
The FN MAG is a Belgian general-purpose machine gun that has become the standard for many militaries around the world. As a true general-purpose weapon, it can be used by infantry or mounted on vehicles and even aircraft. The FN 60.30 is the aircraft-mounted variant. This variant lacks the stock, bipod, pistol grip, carry handle, ejection port dust cover, and optical sight mount and is intended for use on fixed mounts for aircraft. It can be fed on either the left or right side on some subvariants and uses an electronically operated solenoid trigger. The FN MAG is used by over 90 countries and licensed variants of the MAG 60.30 exist. In the British Army, the L8A2 was modified to create the L20A1 for use on helicopters which also has a slotted flash suppressor. The Royal Navy also uses a variant of the L20A1 called the L44A1.
