Comparison with analogues

Comparing to other 76 mm guns it has only 1 shell of choice - High Explosive OEA Mle 1925 - limiting the options against both: aircraft and naval vessels. HE shell itself has an above-average muzzle velocity and a below-average damage output with a decent rate of fire.

Usage in battles

The gun can be used as a supplementary fire while the main guns are reloading, or to harass coastal vessels at medium range. In automated mode it will engage enemy airplanes at a longer range than the anti-aircraft cannons of the ship.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Good muzzle velocity
  • Acceptable rate of fire
  • Good vertical guidance

Cons:

  • Below-average damage output
  • No gun shield

History

The 75/50 Modèle 1922 was a french gun designed during the dawn of the interwar period specifically to provide light French warships with the medium-range anti-air capability.

It was able to elevate -10° down or up to 90° up, being able to engage targets directly above the ship. It had a theoretical rate of fire of up to 15 rounds per minute (one each 4 seconds), but during trials it achieved an average rate of fire of 8 rounds per minute. Guns weighted a total of 1.07 tone.

The Gun used two types of shells:

  • OEA Modèle 1925 - time-fused anti-air shell able to engage enemy airplanes up to 7500 meters altitude when firing 90° up. Shell had a total mass of 12.01 kg with 5.93 kg explosive filler, fired with a single BM5 propellant bag (2.18 kg)
  • OEcl Modèle 1923 - Illumination rounds
  • Practice - these were used for sea trials, salutes and warning shots

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
