The BR.20 has a superb bomb load and is quite strong, being able to soak up a bit more damage than other comparable bombers. The defensive armament has excellent coverage, however the dorsal gunner is quite exposed and commonly gets hit in combat. It not only looks but also flies like a brick, this is a very slow plane and in arcade and realistic, because these game modes are so short in time length, by the time you reach your bombing target the match may already be almost over! The BR.20 is still however quite a treat to fly and is stable and well suited in simulator.

Description

GarageImage B.R.20DR.jpg

The B.R.20DR is a rank I Italian bomber with a battle rating of 1.7 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update 1.69 "Regia Aeronautica" alongside the initial Italian aviation tree.

The BR.20 has a superb bomb load and is quite strong, being able to soak up a bit more damage than other comparable bombers. The defensive armament has excellent coverage, however the dorsal gunner is quite exposed and commonly gets hit in combat. It not only looks but also flies like a brick, this is a very slow plane and in Arcade and Realistic battles, because these game modes are so short, by the time you reach your bombing target the match may already be almost over! The BR.20 is still however quite a treat to fly and is stable and well suited to Simulator.

Survivability and armour

Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.

Armaments

Suspended armament

The B.R.20DR can be outfitted with the following ordnance:

  • 12 x 50 kg GP 50 bombs (600 kg total)
  • 12 x 100 kg GP 100 bombs (1,200 kg total)
  • 4 x 250 kg GP 250 bombs (1,000 kg total)
  • 2 x 500 kg GP 500 bombs (1,000 kg total)
  • 2 x 800 kg GP 800 bombs (1,600 kg total)

Defensive armament

The B.R.20DR is defended by:

  • 2 x 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT da 7.7 mm machine guns, dorsal turret (500 rpg = 1,000 total)
  • 1 x 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT da 7.7 mm machine gun, nose turret (500 rpg)
  • 1 x 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT da 7.7 mm machine gun, ventral turret (500 rpg)

Usage in battles

While bombing, this is an excellent aircraft for flying in formation as course and speed are easily maintained and controlled.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Highest Payload at 1.7 bombers
  • Fast in a dive

Cons:

  • Very Sluggish
  • Terrible Climb Rate

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
