Description

Write an introduction to the article in 2-3 small paragraphs. Briefly tell us about the history of the development and combat using the weaponry and also about its features. Compile a list of air, ground, or naval vehicles that feature this weapon system in the game.

Comparison with analogues

Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns that have firepower equal to this weapon.

Usage in battles

Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against notable opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • HE shells connecting with any aircraft will absolutely shatter it
  • AP shells can easily destroy even heavy tanks if the roof armour is hit
  • Accurate

Cons:

  • Extremely slow rate of fire, which only allows for one or two shots on target per pass
  • Default belt alternates between HE and AP shells, which gives mixed results

History

The T13E1 is a variant of the 75mm gun M3 tank cannon used on the M4 Sherman. To adapt the B-25 Mitchell for the anti-shipping role, the nose was originally modified to carry a 75mm M4 pack howitzer. However, the Army wanted greater firepower than the M4 so they modified the design to create the T13E1 which was tested on the B-35H and its Navy counterpart the PBJ-1H. The new design had a different breach mechanism and the gun walls were lighter to reduce weight it was intended to fired by the navigator. The T13E1 had a muzzle velocity of 2,362 feet per second and it was eventually adopted into service as the 75mm gun M5. However, it had a low rate of fire of only 4 rounds per strafing run, generated considerable recoil, and was relatively ineffective against ground targets so the design was sometimes replaced by a field kit that replaced it with two extra .50 caliber M2 Brownings. However, the lighter cannon of the M5 would find its place as the weapon mounted on the M24 Chaffee light tank.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
