History

The 34-K is a navalized version of the 3-K, a Soviet air defense cannon designed by Rheinmetall (through a shell company) as part of a contract signed between the Weimar Republic and the Soviet Union in the early 1930s. This agreement was mutually beneficial to both parties as the Soviets needed modern weapons but lacked the know-how, and the Germans had the know-how but couldn't make the weapons due to the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles. After the 3-K entered Red Army service, the Soviet Navy asked for a naval anti-aircraft gun mount. The Bolshevik Factory put the rotating part of the 3-K on a naval base, but it was unsuccessful. The Kalinin factory stepped up to the challenge in 1934 with the 34-K which was accepted into service in 1936. 285 were built by the time production ended in 1941. By 1942, the 90-K had replaced the 34-K in the Soviet Navy but it still sees service in North Korea.

The Soviets mounted the 34-K on the Gangut-class dreadnoughts such as the Parizhskaya kommuna, Krasny Kavkaz, Leningrad-class cruisers, Gnevny-class destroyers, and the Novik-class and later Soobrazitelny-class destroyers along with river gunboats and auxiliary craft.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
