The T95E1 represents a bold step forward in American tank design. Developed during the early years of the Cold War, the T95E1 was engineered to tackle the challenges posed by emerging armored threats. With a focus on advanced firepower, this experimental tank was designed to push the boundaries of what was possible in future armored warfare. In-game, the T95E1 has a 90mm smoothbore gun capable of firing APFSDS with excellent ballistics and angled penetration. Though the T95E1 has less impressive mobility and even worse armor, good positioning and capitalizing on the firepower can make the most out of this prototype tank.
Pros: | Cons: |
---|---|
Good Mobility: Has neutral steering. Can keep a steady speed on even roads and fields. | Smoothbore Gun Accuracy: unstabilized gun, making it hard to fire on the move, impacting overall accuracy. |
Good Shell Performance: High muzzle velocity and good angled penetration. Provides effective engagement at medium ranges with its APFSDS-capable 90 mm cannon. | Absence of Modern Tools: Missing features like a laser rangefinder, and thermal vision for gunner and commander. |
Commander Can Fire The Main Gun: Killing the gunner allows the commander to take over within seconds and return fire like normal. | Poor Survivability: The reliance on cast homogeneous armor and a cramped crew compartment makes the T95E1 vulnerable. Its basic protection is insufficient against main caliber tank rounds. |
Main Armament
The T95E1 is outfitted with the 90 mm T208E9 cannon—a smoothbore weapon that marks the first use of APFSDS rounds in the American tech tree. Although it lacks modern stabilization systems, the cannon boasts solid gun handling and impressive shell ballistics for its caliber. With a reload time of 11.1 seconds for a basic crew (improved to 8.5 seconds for aces) and an elevation range of –10° to +20°, the weapon demands precise aiming and tactical positioning. The APFSDS rounds are the most effective rounds available, and have competitive penetration, but their effectiveness is maximized by targeting critical areas like clusters of crew or ammunition racks.
The 90mm APFSDS can penetrate nearly all enemies at the BR except for the T-10M and Conqueror, and even then only their turret cheeks block the APFSDS. Other MBTs are easily penetrated. Careful shots will capitalize on the penetration of the APFSDS and ensure that enemies are killed, if not crippled with a single shot. This well-balanced main armament makes the T95E1 a versatile platform for mid-range engagements.
Armor and Survivability
The T95E1 is protected by cast homogeneous armor, with the hull offering 127 mm of frontal protection. This cast hull will protect against autocannons, including those on SPAAGs like the Gepard and on IFVs like the BMP-2. However, the armor is frontally vulnerable to other tanks firing APDS and HEAT-FS, and its side and rear armor—measuring 51 mm and 19 mm respectively—remains comparatively thin, leaving the tank susceptible to flanking or rear attacks.
The tank’s turret is also constructed from cast homogeneous armor, amounting to 178 mm of frontal protection and 76 mm on the sides. Designed with a significant inclination, the sloped turret has an increased effective thickness and will successfully shrug off full-bore 100mm APHE. The turret, like the hull, is protected against APHE, HE, and autocannons, but is weak against APDS, APFSDS, and HEAT shells which most enemy tanks will be using at this BR.
In addition to the solid cast homogeneous armor, the T95E1’s survivability is compromised by its compact internal configuration. The close proximity of the crew members and the ammunition racks in the turret and the hull mean that a single penetrating hit can leave you crippled or kill you outright. The T95E1 relies heavily on tactical positioning and heightened situational awareness to counteract its inherent vulnerabilities on the battlefield.
Mobility
The T95E1 moves well for its size but isn't breaking any speed records. With a 560-horsepower engine pushing 38.5 tons of steel, it can reach a respectable 56 km/h on roads, but off-road performance is a bit more sluggish, especially on rough terrain or hills. The 14.5 hp/t power-to-weight ratio gives it decent acceleration, though it won’t be outrunning lighter vehicles anytime soon. One of its biggest drawbacks is the slow reverse speed—at just 12 km/h, backing out of a bad situation can feel painfully slow. On the bright side, its transmission is smooth, and neutral steering helps with quick turns, making it fairly responsive for a medium tank.
The T95E1 is more mobile than Centurions, including those found in the British, Swedish and Israeli tech trees, since the Centurion MK 10 packs more horsepower (650 hp) but is held back by weight, only reaching 35 km/h. However, the T95E1 is also significantly slower than fast MBTs like Leopard 1s and AMX-30s, not to mention light tanks. The T95E1's performance is most similar to T-55s, with the T95E1 having less forward mobility but a better reverse and turning (thanks to neutral steering). While not the most mobile vehicle at its BR, the T95E1 handles well enough if you plan your movements carefully and avoid overcommitting to bad positions.
Usage In Battle
The T95E1 is a solid all rounder, but it’s not the kind of tank that you'd think is the new meta. Its 90 mm smoothbore gun hits hard with APFSDS rounds, and while the turret armor can sometimes deflect shots, you can’t count on it to save you. The biggest issue is survivability: if something gets through, it’s probably taking out multiple crew members or detonating your ammo, which makes positioning incredibly important. Mobility is decent, but the slow reverse speed can make backing out of a fight frustratingly slow.
You must be smart and pay attention to your surroundings if you want to get the most out of the T95E1. It performs best in mid-range combat because of its gun, which allows you to take out other tanks before they can respond. You lack the durability and armor necessary for efficient shot trading. Continue to move, switch positions often. Take advantage of this and surprise enemies; while the T95E1 doesn’t have the most impressive top speed, its mobility is good enough to move around the battlefield. The T95E1 can be an amazing tank if you pay attention to your surroundings and choose your battles carefully.
