Finnish Independence Day tank display in Lappeenranta, Finland.

6th of December is a huge day for any Finn. Independence Day is one of the most important holidays in Finland, so it has become a tradition to organize a display of military power on that day. It includes a parade, tank displays, helicopter shows, and so on. I took pictures of some vehicles that seemed interesting to me.

Leopard 2A6 on display.

Pièce de résistance of the whole show was the Leopard 2A6 MBT. As all War Thunder players know, it looks very intimidating in the game, and even more so in reality. The composite screens on the turret, which are present only from the 2A5 modification give the tank a sleek look. This step in the development of the Leopard 2 has a Rheinmetall 120mm smoothbore L/55 cannon, in comparison to an L/44 cannon on the 2A5 and previous models.

Another interesting vehicle which is represented in War Thunder is the CV 9030FIN IFV. It is a modification of Sweden’s CV 90, equipped with a Northrop-Grumman 30mm Bushmaster autocannon instead of the 40mm Bofors. Interestingly, the Finnish Army also decided to install a Russian PKMT machine gun on the IFV.

AMOS-FIN or (XA-361) on display.

The last vehicle was the most mysterious: I had never seen it before, neither during my random Google searches nor in War Thunder. It was explained that the peculiar vehicle was equipped with a mortar launcher. Turns out that this monstrosity of a tank is a Finnish Patria AMV, with a half-Swedish, half-Finnish AMOS mortar launcher mounted on it. Development of this AMV lasted from 1994 all the way to 2006, and it was taken into service in 2007. The caliber of the 'gun' is 120mm, and it can fire, among other things, Bofors STRIX guided projectiles.

I hope that I’ve provided some interesting information to you, the reader, and done my best. Have a nice day!
