The Leopard 2A6 is an updated version of the German main battle tank, production of which began in the early 2000s. As part of the modification, the tank was outfitted with a longer barrel and other upgrades. In 2014, Finland signed an agreement to purchase 100 Leopard 2A6 tanks from the Netherlands. The tanks were purchased and delivered between 2015 and 2019. The contract was worth around €200 million. The tanks continue to serve in the Finnish military, though a small number were transferred to Ukraine in 2023.
The Finnish Leopard 2A6 was introduced in Update 2.21 "Fire and Ice" as a part of the Swedish ground research tree. This version differs from the Leopard 2A4 primarily due to its elongated 120mm gun and powerful DM53 shell. Additionally, the front of the turret has been fitted with wedge-shaped composite screens for improved protection, and the commander has his own independent sight with a second-generation thermal imager. Disadvantages include the raised rear of the hull, which makes firing at targets behind the vehicle difficult, and the vulnerable turret mantlet.
