In 1952, the Swiss Oerlikon company calculated that 35 mm would be the most optimum calibre for anti-aircraft use. They decided to adapt the 20 mm post-war KAA design for the 35 mm role. The final design that became the belt-fed KDA was produced under the name Mk 323. The KDA is used on the British [[Chieftain Marksman|Marksman]] AA system, the West German [[Leopard (Family)|Leopard I-based]] [[Gepard]], the Polish PT-91 main battle tank-based PZL Loara, and the Japanese [[Type 74 (Family)|Type 74-based]] [[Type 87]] vehicles, and it can be used with Super Fledermaus radar system.

History

In 1952, the Swiss Oerlikon company calculated that 35 mm would be the most optimum calibre for anti-aircraft use. They decided to adapt the 20 mm post-war KAA design for the 35 mm role. The final design that became the belt-fed KDA was produced under the name Mk 323. The KDA is used on the British Marksman AA system, the West German Leopard I-based Gepard, the Polish PT-91 main battle tank-based PZL Loara, and the Japanese Type 74-based Type 87 vehicles, and it can be used with Super Fledermaus radar system.
