History
The 90-K is a variant of the 85 mm air defense gun M1939 (GRAU designation 52-K), an 85 mm anti-aircraft gun more famous for its adaptation as the primary weapon of the T-34-85. From June to August of 1941, this Red Army anti-aircraft weapon was tested on the mount of the 34-K as a more powerful replacement for the Soviet Navy's medium anti-aircraft gun. While it entered production at Factory No. 8 at Sverdlovsk in 1942, the gun wasn't officially accepted into service until after the end of World War II in June 1946. The 90-K were mounted on the MPK Pr.122bis, MPK-163 river boats, the Yasterb-class patrol boats, the Kalinin and Kaganovich-class cruisers, and on destroyers such as the Ognevoy-class.
