History

Historicly the 128mm was in use by the navy as a medium destroyer gun and with the air defence as a static defecife weapon to protect the german skies. The gun was inspired by the russian heavy artillery gun D-25T (122 mm) (tank version) but with the intraduction of such tanks as IS and IS2 it was in the eyes of high command that a heavy anti tank gun was needed to figth against this new generation of soviet tanks rather than the original dual purpose howitser gun. as thus the pak 44 and the tank version KwK 44 were devloped. the gun could double as an artillery piece by the use of less charges giving the shells curvature. As of the end of the war total of 51 pieces were produced.
