Created by Marc Birkigt in 1933 to make a moteur-canon (literally motor-cannon) that would fired the propeller shaft of an inline aircraft engine, the Hispano 404 was quickly picked up by the British, who were embarking on their own attempts to arm fighters with cannons. The first British licensed variant was the Hispano Mk.I, but they would continue to refine the design throughout the World War II with the Mk.V appearing near the end as the ultimate version of the 404. With a shorter barrel compared to previous designs, the Mark V was lighter and boasted a higher rate of fire and could be housed in the wing, protecting the cannon from mechanical stress or freezing at high altitudes. After the war ended, the British would continue to arm their aircraft at the dawn of the jet age with the Mk.V. These aircraft included the de Havillard Vampire and Venom, which both were exported to Sweden. It is with these fighter aircraft, that the Swedes first got access to the Mk.V. With their J29 Tunnan suffering from delays as the Swedish attempted to iron out the issues with their new attempt to make a fighter jet, they reached an agreement with the British and licensed the Mk.V at Bofors for their new jets. Description

The 20 mm akan m/47C is the Swedish designation for the British 20 mm Hispano Mk.V. Sweden bought surplus weapons and a license to produce the weapon after WW2. The Swedish configuration of the weapon offers more or less the same performance as the British Hispano Mk V guns but has different belts and a slightly lower fire rate.

Vehicles equipped with this weapon

General info

The 20 mm akan m/47C deals good damage but has a lower fire rate compared to a lot of other guns at the common BR of its carriers. Its carriers however carry a lot of ammo for each gun, which together with its medium-high fire rate, allows you to fire for a longer period of time without running out of ammo.

Comparison with analogues

Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns that have firepower equal to this weapon.

Usage in battles

Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against notable opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.

Pros and cons

Pros:

 • Good damage
 • Lot of ammo for 20 mm

Cons:

 • Low velocity

History

The Akan m/47C is a Swedish licensed variant of the British Hispano Mk.V which was itself a variant of the French Hispano 404. Having first received access to the Hispano Mk.V, designated Akan m/47B, through imports of British aircraft including the de Havilland Vampire and Venom, and with their J29 Tunnan suffering from delays as they attempted to iron out the issues with their new attempt to make a fighter jet, they reached an agreement with the British and licensed the Mk.V at Bofors for their new jets. The m/47C is not only different from the earlier m/47B for being a licensed design, but it also had a higher capacity at 180 rounds compared the m/47B's 150 rounds.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
