Description
The Mi-8AMTSh is a rank VI Soviet attack helicopter with a battle rating of 10.0 (AB) and 9.7 (RB/SB). It was introduced in Update "Kings of Battle".
General info
Flight performance
Describe how the helicopter behaves in the air. Speed, manoeuvrability, acceleration and allowable loads - these are the most important characteristics of the vehicle.
Characteristics | Max speed (km/h at _,___ m) |
Max altitude (metres) | |
---|---|---|---|
AB | RB | ||
Stock | ___ | ___ | 4950 |
Upgraded | ___ | ___ |
Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the helicopter. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical systems.
Modifications and economy
Armaments
Offensive armament
The Mi-8AMTSh is armed with:
- 1 x 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, nose turret (1,750 rpg)
- 128 x countermeasures
Suspended armament
Describe the helicopter's suspended armament: additional cannons under the winglets, any bombs, and rockets. Since any helicopter is essentially only a platform for suspended weaponry, this section is significant and deserves your special attention. If there is no suspended weaponry remove this subsection.
Usage in battles
Describe the tactics of playing in a helicopter, the features of using the helicopter in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).
Pros and cons
Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

The Soviet military originally showed little interest in the Mi-8 until the Bell UH-1's involvement in the Vietnam war became widely publicised as a great asset to the United States, allowing troops to move swiftly in and out of a battlefield and throughout the country. It was only then that the Soviet military rushed a troop-carrying variant of the Mil Mi-8 into production. By 1967, it had been introduced into the Soviet Air Force as the Mi-8.
There are numerous variants, including the Mi-8 AMTsh; that belongs to the 3°generation of the soviet Mi-8.
The Mi-8 AMTsh entered service in the early 2000s and offers numerous improvements in both engine and armament.
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
