The M60 (The 105 mm Gun Full Tracked Combat Tank M60) was an American main battle tank developed in the late 1950s as the successor to the M48 Patton. Changes in the nature of warfare and the increasing firepower of enemy armored vehicles drove the development of the M60. Though based on the M48 Patton, which saw extensive service during the Korean War, the new tank featured significant improvements and upgrades. These included installing a new 105 mm gun to replace the M48’s 90 mm cannon, improving armor protection in vulnerable areas, and adding a more reliable diesel engine. The M60 was the first post-war American tank to use such an engine. Throughout its service life, the M60 underwent several modernization programs, the most significant of which occurred during the 1970s with the introduction of the M60A3 variant. More than 15,000 vehicles of all versions were produced, and by the beginning of 1990, over 9,000 remained in service with the United States Army. Various M60 modifications continued to serve with the United States Armed Forces and its allies until the late 1990s when they were replaced by more advanced tanks, such as the M1 Abrams.
The M60 was introduced in Update 1.51 "Cold Steel". In the game, the M60 is a versatile, well-rounded tank capable of performing a wide range of battlefield roles, from supporting allied forces to leading assaults on key objectives. Its good mobility, solid armor protection, and the high firepower of its 105 mm gun make this possible. The gun is capable of destroying even the most heavily armored opponents encountered in battle.
