Description

The RBU-1200, also known as the Smerch-2, is a Soviet-designed anti-submarine rocket launcher system that was developed in the 1960s. The system was widely used by the Soviet Navy during the Cold War era and was later exported to other countries. The RBU-1200 was highly effective in detecting and neutralizing enemy submarines, making it a crucial weapon system in naval warfare.

The RBU-1200 featured a launcher that could fire 12 213mm rockets, each containing a depth charge. The rockets were fired in rapid succession, creating a barrage of depth charges that could quickly neutralize an enemy submarine. The launcher was mounted on a variety of different ships, including destroyers, frigates, and corvettes.

In War Thunder, the RBU-1200 is featured on several different naval vessels. These include the MPK Pr.201K, the MPK Pr.201M, the MPK Pr.12412P and the MPK Pr.12412, all of which were used by the Soviet Navy. The inclusion of the RBU-1200 in War Thunder allows players to experience the effectiveness of this weapon system and gain a deeper understanding of its historical significance in naval warfare.

History

The Soviet Navy received the British Mark 10 Hedgehog Mortar through lend-lease from the British during World War II. After the war ended, they began developing their own improved version of this weapon system to destroy enemy submarines, which became the RBU-1000. In 1955, an improved version of the design came out for smaller vessels the RBU-1200. The RBU-1200 is a five-tube launcher controlled by a PUS-B "Uragan" (Slavic for "hurricane") fire control system. The RBU-1200 projectiles used solid rocket fuel for launches and were also intended for use against enemy torpedoes. The weapon was notably used on the Pr.201 and Pr.12412 which were both dedicated ASW patrol craft classes.
