Description

The EC-665 Tiger HAD Block 2 is an advanced version of the EC-665 Tiger HAD It was purely made to increase the ground-attack and anti-tank capability of the Tiger HAD, by adding Spike ER Fire-and-Forget missiles. Primarily designed for air-to-ground combat, the EC-665 Tiger is a result of European defense collaboration between France and Germany, initiated during the Cold War era to counter ground threats, especially tanks. Born out of the 1975 agreement and developed by Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters), this attack helicopter combined stealth technology, advanced avionics, and potent firepower, making it highly agile and versatile.

It was introduced in the Update "Kings of Battle". This variant however remains identical in game (at least in game) to the EC-665 Tiger HAD  with the exception of its camouflage and Spike ER missiles, making it more potent than the German EC-665 Tiger UHT which has a slightly shorter range on its missiles.

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in a helicopter, the features of using the helicopter in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

History

The EC-665 Tiger HAD Block 2 represents a significant evolution in the storied lineage of the Tiger helicopter program, a collaborative venture between France and Germany that began in the 1980s. The inception of this program was driven by a pressing need for a modern, versatile combat helicopter capable of operating across various European theatres. Airbus Helicopters, formerly known as Eurocopter, was at the forefront of this ambitious project, undertaking the design and production of the Tiger. The maiden flight of the first prototype in 1991 marked a new era in military aviation, heralding the arrival of a machine that was designed to be agile, survivable, and multifaceted in its combat roles.

As the Tiger evolved, several variants emerged, each tailored to specific military needs. Among these, the HAD (Hélicoptère d’Appui Destruction) variant stood out for its focus on multi-role attack missions, combining ground-attack prowess with robust defensive capabilities. The Tiger HAD Block 2 is an advanced iteration of this variant, distinguished by significant upgrades in avionics, weapon systems, and engine performance. These enhancements were not merely incremental but transformative, equipping the helicopter with cutting-edge targeting systems, sophisticated navigation and communication tools, and an overall capability to operate in more challenging environments.

While the Tiger series has been a prominent fixture in various combat operations since the early 2000s, the specific combat exploits and deployment details of the Tiger HAD Block 2 remain less documented, partly due to its recent introduction and possibly also because of the secretive nature of military operations. Earlier variants have demonstrated their mettle in diverse conflict zones, from the rugged terrains of Afghanistan to the turbulent skies over Libya. They have been lauded for their effectiveness in reconnaissance, fire support, and anti-tank missions. The Tiger HAD Block 2, with its state-of-the-art upgrades, is expected to surpass these already impressive benchmarks.

In the international arena, the Tiger, inclusive of its advanced HAD Block 2 variant, has garnered considerable interest, a testament to its perceived effectiveness and adaptability. This interest reflects the global recognition of the Tiger as a symbol of modern military aviation's prowess.

In essence, the story of the Tiger HAD Block 2 is not just about technological advancements; it's a narrative of continuous adaptation and evolution in response to the ever-changing landscape of modern warfare. As the latest addition to the Tiger family, the HAD Block 2 stands as a beacon of military innovation, embodying the culmination of decades of expertise and a relentless pursuit of excellence in the field of combat helicopter design.
