In 1952, the Swiss Oerlikon company calculated that 35mm would be the most optimum caliber for anti-aircraft use. They decided to adapt the 20mm post-war KAA design for the 35mm role. The final design that became the belt-fed KDA was produced under the name Mk 323. The KDA is used on the British Marksman AA system, the West German Leopard I-based Gepard, the Polish PT-91 main battle tank based PZL Loara, and the Japanese Type 74-based Type 87 vehicles, it can be used with Super Fledermaus radar system.
